UPA wins India elections 2009. My wishes for them. And I wish that they will fulfill all their promises made before elections.

The UPA has a shot at another five-year term. Incidentally, Rahul Gandhi had a big role to play in the Congress’s for going it alone in UP. Also, he was the star campaigner for the Congress, clocking the most miles and addressing most rallies. True, the Congress has benefited from the efforts of several other leaders and chief ministers.

At last count the UPA had got 261 seats and were headed to get nearly 262. The NDA meanwhile had got 156 and was slated to get more nearly 158. Third Front is at a distant third with less than 100 seats. The Fourth Front suffered the most startling defeat with all of its constituents suffering significant erosion in seat numbers.

The Congress sweep surprised foes and friends. It shocked the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which had hoped to return to power after a five-year gap.
