ICANN board announced Internet Domain Names in International Languages would come into effect in 2010ICANN board announced Internet Domain Names in International Languages would come into effect in 2010

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced that it would declare an end to the exclusive use of Latin characters-the script in which English and most other European languages are written for website addresses.

ICANN president Rod Beckstrom said the change would come into effect in the middle of 2010. Icann aims to start receiving applications next month. As of now we had control only over websites with the suffix .in. This suffix will soon be replaced with .bharat in the scheduled Indian languages

Once domain names in Indian scripts come into existence, www.google.in could be written as www.google.bharat-in Indian scripts. Indian scripts would also be enabled for suffixes such as .org and .co. Most probably the users can type out the address of a website in the scripts of any of the country’s 22 official languages.

The Icann board chairman said that when the change comes into force, it will be possible to use characters from languages such as Chinese, Arabic, Korean and Japanese as well for a full internet address. Hence internet addresses would no longer use limited generic top-level domains such as .com or .org, and instead use more flexible internationalized domain names such as .post or .bank.

These changes is very much necessary for not only half the world’s internet users today but more than half, probably, of the future users as the internet continues to spread.

The success of Chandrayaan I moon mission, India is now looking at exploration of outer space using planetary missions including a human space flight programme. India’s first Chandrayaan-1 mission intended to study the Moon using eleven scientific instruments built in India.

With this, preparation of a 3-dimensional atlas of the lunar surface and chemical and mineralogical mapping of entire lunar surface has been undertaken by scientists from India and abroad. India takes special interest in capacity building and services for enabling the developing countries in the application of Space technology. So far 824 scholars from 31 countries from the Asia-Pacific region and 27 scholars from 17 countries outside the Asia-pacific region have benefited from the educational activities of this Centre,

India has also been discussing at various levels the need for embarking on a human space flight programme. Exploration of outer space using planetary missions will be furthered with Chandrayaan-2 and its follow on missions.

My Diwali Wishes To You and My FriendsMy Diwali Wishes To You and My Friends

Happy Diwali!!!

Diwali is also known as the Festival of Lights. In earlier times, people touched up their homes with cotton wicks dipped in ghee or oil. In order to save environment and energy  Decorate the houses with traditional lamps rather than bulbs. In this season cut short your list of crackers and use that money in buying some useful items.

Use this opportunity to introduce our culture to others. Such an act will encourage unity and teach new morals to kids. This is the time to exchange your happiness with their gloominess. So go ahead and put a smile on at least one such pretty face.

Post Diwali pollution is always on an all-time high despite there being a ban on crackers. Say no to some big crackers which pollutes our environment. Enjoy the diwali with sweets and fun. Make this Diwali a double the joy of festivity.

Obama’s vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons brings 2009 Nobel Peace prizeObama’s vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons brings 2009 Nobel Peace prize

Wow! It is proud that from my state there is one Nobel Prize winner. The Nobel Prize winner Venkatraman Ramakrishnan with two other scientist visited the University of Madras (Guindy campus). During his visit to Chennai in late 2008, Ramakrishnan had interacted with both faculty and students.

Indian-born Venkatraman Ramakrishnan on Wednesday visited the University of Madras (Guindy campus) to say Three Cheers!. It is a rare coincidence that Venky’ Ramakrishnan, Thomas Steitz and Ada Yonath are among the more than a dozen Nobel laureates who had visited our department over the past five decades. Steitz and Yonath had both delivered lectures at the university in January 1978,” said a proud professor D Velmurugan, head of the department, pulling out a bound copy of the proceedings of an international symposium on Biomolecular Structure, Conformation, Function and Evolution,’ published in 1978.

Ramakrishnan had visited the university twice once in 2002 and lately in December 2008 to deliver a memorial and endowment lecture instituted in the name of the eminent molecular biophysicist G N Ramachandran, the founder of department, who had missed the Nobel narrowly. However, when Ramakrishnan came to deliver the endowment lecture, he had already made significant progress in the field of crystallography and ribosome.

Normally scientists don’t share with others the progress in any study that they are undertaking. However, when Ramakrishnan was here he was quite open about his research in crystallography and ribosome and the progress made, which is a rare quality recalled G Shanmugam, former head of department of crystallography and biophysics.

A few days back, Mahendra Singh Dhoni experienced one of the proudest moments of his two year reign as India’s one-day captain when a six-wicket win over New Zealand in the Compaq Cup took Men in Blue to the top of the one day rankings. But, the Men in Blue’s stay at the top lasted barely for 24 hours after they lost their match to sri lanka.

Now it is a right chance for the Men in Blue to capitalize and make it count to crowned the No:1 ODI Team status.

The midnight of August 15, 1947 is memorable moment for every Indian on earth, as it is the time, when India got independence from the stranglehold of the mighty British. Since then, the red-letter day is celebrated with pomp and gaiety, across the length and breadth of India.

Celebrated all across the nation with great enthusiasm, the day is marked with the Indian flag hoisting ceremony at Red Fort and Prime Minister’s address to the nation. All the state buildings and structures of national importance are adorned with ‘Tricolor’.

People indulge themselves in remembering the heroes of the freedom struggle and pay homage to them.In the evening , sky is dotted with hundreds of colorful kites symbolizing the freedom. . India Gate is the center of attraction and a nice place to hang out in the evening of Independence Day, as the structure is attractively illuminated.

Total eclipses are caused when the moon moves directly between the sun and the earth, covering it completely to cast a shadow on earth.

Today Millions of People turned their eyes skyward to see the total solar eclipse, which dawn suddenly turned to darkness across the continent in the longest total solar eclipse this century will see.

Millions of others, fearing a bad omen, shuttered themselves indoors. Chinese launched fireworks and danced in Shanghai. And in India, a woman was crushed as thousands of viewers crowded the banks of the Ganges for a glimpse. Cloudy skies and rain damped the show in many areas, but villagers in the town of Varanasi, on the banks of the Ganges in India, got one of the best views. Thousands of Hindus took to the waters to cleanse their sins. The eclipse was seen there for 3 minutes and 48 seconds. Clouds obscured the sun when the eclipse began. But they parted in several Indian cities minutes before the total eclipse took place at 6:24 a.m. (0054 GMT; 8:54 p.m. EDT).

Starting off in India just after dawn, the eclipse was visible across a wide swath of Asia before moving over southern Japan and then off into the Pacific Ocean. In some parts of Asia, it lasted as long as 6 minutes and 39 seconds.

This total solar eclipse is the longest since July 11, 1991, when a total eclipse lasting 6 minutes, 53 seconds was visible from Hawaii to South America. There will not be a longer eclipse than Wednesday’s until 2132.
